Full-Time Clozapine Co-ordinator – Mental Health Nurse (CNS2)

Job Description

Central Coast Local Health District require a “Clozapine Co-ordinator – Mental Health Nurse (CNS2)” in Gosford NSW:

The Central Coast Clozapine Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the assessment, monitoring, and treatment of patients receiving Clozapine in order to minimise relapse and maximise healthy lifestyle.

The NSW Public Health System Nurses’ and Midwives’ (State) Award states that the Clinical Nurse/ Midwifery Specialist Grade 1 (CNS 1) is ‘ the registered nurse/ midwife who applies a high level of clinical nursing knowledge, experience and skills in providing complex nursing/ midwifery care directed towards a defined population or defined service area, with minimum direct supervision’.

The CNS 1

  • Actively contributes to the development of clinical practice in the ward/ unit/ service
  • Acts as a resource and mentor to others in relation to clinical practice; and
  • Actively contributes to their own professional development.

The NSW Public Health System Nurses’ and Midwives’ (State) Award states that the Clinical Nurse/ Midwifery Specialist Grade 2 (CNS 2) is ‘a registered nurse/ midwife appointed to a position classified as such with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least three years’ experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification’.

The CNS 2 in addition to the CNS 1 criteria:

  • Exercises extended autonomy of decision making
  • Exercises professional knowledge and judgement in providing complex care requiring advanced clinical skills and undertakes on of the following roles:
    • Leadership in the development of nursing specialty clinical practice and service delivery in the ward/ unit/ service; or
    • Specialist clinical practice across a small or medium sized health facility/ sector/ service; or
    • Primary case management of a complete episode of care; or
    • Primary case management of a continuum of specialty care involving both inpatient and community based services; or
    • An authorised extended role within the scope of a Registered Nurse/ Midwifery practice.

Selection Criteria
Registered Nurse Div 1 with and Authority to Practice from APHRA

Post Graduate qualifications relevant to nursing and a minimum of 3 years’ experience working within a clinical mental health setting.

Knowledge and understanding of Clozapine treatment monitoring programs.

Demonstrated commitment to recovery oriented practice.

Demonstrated knowledge and application of care coordination and liaison across health services.

Demonstrated high level of communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications. Demonstrated commitment to service development and quality improvement programs.

Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align with the NSW Health CORE values and CCLHD Values and behaviours charter.
