What you’ll be doing

The Director is responsible for managing the Local Health District (LHD) Clinical Governance function to promote and support patient safety and clinical excellence within CCLHD health services. The Director reports to the Director Quality, Strategy and Improvement and provides high level expert advice on all clinical governance issues to the Chief Executive working collaboratively with members of the LHD Executive and other senior Divisional/Directorate Executives to analyse, maintain and improve patient safety and clinical quality systems across the District.

The Director:
Provides leadership to develop a culture of safety and quality improvement across the LHD
Provides leadership to ensure partnering with patients, carers and consumers
Sets priorities and strategic directions for safe and high-quality clinical care, and ensures that these are communicated effectively to the workforce and the community
Develops and leads the implementation of a comprehensive CCLHD Patient Safety Program and Consumer Feedback Program which will reinforce the NSW Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Program.
Ensures effective identification, investigation, management, monitoring and reporting of clinical safety risks and adverse patient events within the Health Service.
Leads the development and implementation of systems across the LHD to assist services to achieve nationally recognised accreditation certification.
Works collaboratively with and supports clinical staff of the LHD to ensure rigorous review and audit of patient outcomes with effective uptake of safety initiatives (e.g. deteriorating patient, medication safety).
Develops, implements, monitors the quality and safety operational plan and annual safety account to ensure the NSW Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Program is implemented, reported on at all levels of the organisation.
Actively leads and contributes to improvements to the working knowledge of clinicians and other personnel in understanding patient safety and clinical quality systems by working with LHD Quality and Safety teams, NSW Ministry of Health, NSW Health.
Advises and supports clinical services and facilities in the recognition and management of clinical risk and work with other members of the Quality and Safety team and Executive to ensure that clinical risk is managed as part of an integrated clinical and non-clinical risk management mechanism in CCLHD.
Participates as an active member of the NSW Directors’ of Clinical Governance Forum to ensure ideas, research and initiatives are shared and services are based on best practice and available evidence.
