Full-Time Staff Specialist in Neurology

Job Description

Central Coast Local Health District require a “Staff Specialist in Neurology” in Long Jetty NSW:

This role is to provide firstly a clinical management and consultation service to patients with conditions applicable to the sub-specialty of Neurology and participate in an appropriate on-call roster for Central Coast Local Health District, secondly to provide education, supervision and support to junior medical staff, and thirdly to engage in ongoing quality assurance activities both at the Departmental and District Level and additionally as directed by the Executive Director of Medical Services. Participating in an acute stroke service, including timely clinical evaluation as well assessment of relevant radiologic findings to facilitate appropriate acute stroke care. This position is primarily located at Gosford and Wyong Hospital. Clinicians are reminded that all clinicians are employed on an area basis and variation in service may occur subject to process articulated within the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Applicants should be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 population before 2030. The Local Health District has strong connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Selection Criteria

  • Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia, inclusive of an unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number.
  • Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and / or other equivalent specialist recognition.

Recognised expertise in the field of Stroke medicine, preferably have completed a fellowship/ gained postgraduate experience in a Tertiary Stroke Centre

  • Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Neurology, with a special interest in Stroke medicine.
  • Ability to work constructively and effectively in a Multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and supervise medical and surgical trainees, residents and medical students; Previous experience in teaching the management of the deteriorating patient would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and CCLHD Values and Behaviours charter.
