About Wallsend Manor…

In April 2018, we opened a brand new aged care home in Wallsend, Newcastle.

The home is located approximately 14 kilometres north-west of the Port of Newcastle and will offer a serene country like setting with views across the rolling hills.

Wallsend Manorwill provide quality care, community and an engaging lifestyle for its residents to enjoy. Our aim is to provide a high standard of Person Centred Care in partnership with residents, their family and our staff. We aim for residents to live a full and enjoyable life in a way that is important to them.

About the Role….

The Personal Care Assistantis responsible for providing high quality, direct care services that meet the personal care needs of residents in accordance with their identified needs and preferences, under the direct or indirect supervision of Registered and or Enrolled Nurses.

Typical tasks include:

Assist and support residents as required to maintain Activities of Daily Living such as personal hygiene, grooming, oral hygiene, continence management, mobility, food and fluids, maintenance of hearing aids, glasses, use of wheelchairs and other aids, physiotherapy exercises.
Assist residents with BPSD (Behavioural and psychological symptoms of Dementia) through implementation of management strategies documented in the resident’s care, and monitoring effectiveness of strategies.
Assist with treatments such as simple dressings, application of ointments and creams
Undertake as directed baseline observations e.g. temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration and blood sugar levels.
Document in progress notes and report observation results to RN/EN.
Ensure the social, emotional, spiritual, cultural and recreational needs of residents are meet as per the care plan.
Ensure compliance with Aged Care standards and facility policy and process.
About You….

The PCA is a key role in ensuring we deliver outstanding service and support to residents. The PCAs we recruit for will be caring and passionate about providing focussed support and care for residents. Other requirements for successful applicants includes:

Cert III or IV in Aged Care (Mandatory)
Current First Aid Certificate
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritise and manage workloads according to resident needs and work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Knowledge and understanding of ACFI documentation requirements, and the Aged Care Standards Accreditation Process.
Knowledge of the legislative requirements relevant to Aged Care.
Knowledge and understanding of Person Centred Care.
Computer literacy with Aged Care software and Microsoft Office
Genuine care and understanding of resident’s needs
Interest in individuals and developing sincere relationships
Strong honesty and integrity
Patience, listening and ability to build relationships with a variety of people
Discretion, professionalism and confidentiality
Current police check
