Job Description

Hunterlink require a “Caseworker / Counsellor / Coach” in Newcastle West NSW:

Hunterlink is seeking a Caseworker / Counsellor / Coach to join our team in a full-time capacity at our practice in the Newcastle CBD.

The successful applicant will be highly competent in case management, counselling, coaching and responsible for a diverse client base which will include the following:

Case Management

You will be responsible for the communication and flow of information related to incoming calls and referrals from the EAP service. You will manage a case load of diverse clients and be thoroughly competent in generating active client centred case plans that are monitored and followed through on. You will be able to navigate through various referral pathways and have a strong knowledge of how counselling services operate. A case plan example will involve court reports, mental health services, detoxes, residential rehabilitation and GP mental health care plans.

Counselling & Coaching

You will be responsible for providing individual, group, grief and loss, relationships, and crisis intervention counselling services to workers and their families. Hunterlink has a 24hr assistance line, therefore telephone counselling is an integral part of the job function.


  • Telephone counselling applies to approx. 90% of the client case load
  • Case management in an EAP environment can often involve shortened sessions, shortened exit plans and capped sessions
  • This type of case management applies to dynamic, solution focused workers

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in related field
  • Demonstrated work experience in Counselling, Social Work, AOD, Coaching, Mental Health and Psychology modalities
  • Exceptional client engagement skills
  • Excellent Case Management skills
  • Co-ordination, program development experience
  • Able to work unsupervised, self-sufficiently, reliable and motivated in utilising problem-solving skills
  • Drivers licence
  • Prepared to travel interstate on a semi-occasional basis with minimal notice
  • Demonstrated experience in networking and fostering service relationships
  • Can work well within a small team and be flexible given our unique work environment
  • Can facilitate groups and speak in public forums
  • An outgoing person that is looking for a great opportunity
  • Knowledge of EAP Operations desired but not essential
  • Forward thinkers who can implement other tasks when not working with clients
