Full-Time Clinical Coder
Hunter New England Local Health District require a “Clinical Coder” in Newcastle NSW:
Read digital scanned, paper records and electronic inpatient records and assign diagnostic and procedure codes into the patient information system according to the ICD10AM classification system, for inpatient episodes at the John Hunter, John Hunter Childrens, Belmont and Tomaree Hospitals, Rankin Park unit and the Royal Newcastle Centre.

You have excellent attention to detail and are able to work with minimal supervision. You are comfortable working alone and with a team. You will need good communication skills as you may be required to speak with doctors, specialists and other health care providers to accurately assess patient records and outcomes.
About the role
You will be working with a dedicated team of coding professionals. In addition to ongoing professional development opportunities, you will receive on the job mentoring (if entry level coder progression training) and flexible working hours.
This position is based at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, New South Wales. You must be available to relocate to Newcastle for this opportunity. Relocation costs to Newcastle are currently not offered to candidates.
Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital is a tertiary referral and teaching hospital featuring fifteen operating theatres, 550 adult beds and 100 paediatric beds. Specialities including general surgery, anaesthesia and intensive care, cardiology and cardiac surgery, general medicine, endocrinology, kidney transplant, neonatal intensive care, vascular, nephrology, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, orthopaedics, neurology, neurosurgery, respiratory medicine, immunology and several more. Also Coding diverse paediatric specialities for the John Hunter Children’s Hospital a referral centre for children up to the age of 18, rehabilitation for the Rankin Park Hospital, the general specialities for the Belmont Hospital and community health for the Tomaree Hospital.

Completion of a recognized ICD10AM clinical coding course (HIMAA or OTEN) or relevant tertiary qualification in Health Information Management including medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
Demonstrated Tertiary Hospital level complex Clinical Coding experience and competence in clinical classification using ICD-10-AM & ACHI and thorough knowledge of Australian Coding Standards and demonstrated coding accuracy and productivity rates.
Experience of hospital inpatient administration reporting systems.
Excellent organisational, teamworking and communication skills with experience in communicating with clinicians on clinical coding matters.
Computer keyboard skills and experience using Microsoft Windows programs and the 3M Codefinder.
