Job Description

Hunter Valley Grammar School (HVGS) has been offering Excellence in Education since 1990 and is the only IB PYP School north of Sydney. Located at East Maitland in the lower Hunter Valley, NSW, two hours north of Sydney and 30 minutes west of Newcastle, HVGS is independent and coeducational, catering for students from Preschool to Year 12. The School boasts outstanding facilities covering 32 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds.
A position exists for an experienced Compliance Manager to commence in July 2018 to oversee all risk and compliance responsibilities. This critical role reports to the Principal and will work across the school administration, and in consultation with the Work, Health & Safety Committee, the Policy & Compliance Committee and Board.
Key duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage compliance with child protection legislation including, Working with Children Checks for employees, contractors, visitors and volunteers, and maintain the School’s register.
  • Manage compliance requirements and documentation for all new and existing employees, volunteers and contractors.
  • Manage Workers Compensation claims in accordance with legislation and coordinate return to work programs for staff.
  • Deliver professional learning as necessary to all staff in areas of compliance including, Work Health & Safety and Child Protection.
  • Develop and maintain the School’s Work, Health and Safety Management System.
  • Review accident reports, identify and implement remedial action. Assist in the investigation of accidents and maintain a central comprehensive risk assessment register.
  • Conduct ongoing inspection and audits of the workplace.
  • Manage regulatory and independent school sector reporting requirements.
  • Undertake a systematic review of all school policies giving regard to changes in school processes, legislation and the requirements of registration and accreditation with NESA.
  • Oversee ongoing Board governance obligations as required by NESA.

To be considered for this role you will demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field
  • Previous experience in a similar role in the education sector/in an independent school would be advantageous (however we welcome applications from candidates from the legal profession looking to apply their skills in a different role)
  • Knowledge of risk management and governance frameworks in the education sector
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A commitment to the values and pedagogy of the School.
