Job Description

Hunter New England Local Health District require a “Manager, Patient Safety” in Newcastle NSW:

Lead the patient safety team to develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the

Patient Safety Program and systems that promote a culture of safety and minimise adverse events across HNE Health, directly contributing to optimised patient health outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the HNE LHD Clinical Governance Unit’s dynamic and collaborative team.

This is a new role that divides the current Patient Safety Manager portfolio into two geographically based positions. The role will primarily support the Greater Metropolitan and Children, Young People and Families Health Services and be responsible for managing the Patient Safety Officers within these Health Services.

The successful candidate will work closely with the current Patient Safety Manager to:

  • Provide high level, customer focused, advisory service to management and staff on matters relating to patient safety, incident management and incident data
  • Ensure the safety systems promote a culture of safety and minimise adverse events across HNE Health, directly contributing to optimised patient health outcomes.

An eligibility list will be created for similar positions, both Permanent and Temporary, in the future.

Selection Criteria
Tertiary qualification in a health discipline and / or equivalent clinical experience with substantial experience in senior management or leadership within a complex health care setting relevant to clinical governance with Current Drivers Licence (NSW eligibility).

Highly developed understanding and extensive experience in the application and implementation of Patient Safety programs, Clinical Risk identification, improvement methodologies, system thinking and remediation within the health care setting with the ability to monitor, implement and evaluate the impacts

Demonstrated high level effective leadership with the ability to effectively motivate, mentor, coach and develop staff in a multidisciplinary environment.

Extensive experience in the management of a large multi-disciplinary team in a healthcare environment.

Demonstrated high level of skill in the analysis of complex issues, formulating new approaches and implementing comprehensive change programs and improvement strategies.

Highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate, consult and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Demonstrated high level written communication skills with the capacity to produce comprehensive service and strategic reports and directions.

Demonstrated competent in the use of computers as a business tool, including the Microsoft Office suite and experience with database applications.
