Job Description

Hunter New England Local Health District require a “Specialist Mental Health Clinician (YES)” in Maitland NSW:

Provide a high quality specialist Mental Health Youth Engagement Service to young people and their families and carers within geographically based Child and Adolescent and Adult Mental Health Services, to ensure the provision of optimal health outcomes for young people with multiple and complex mental health, physical health, developmental and social needs, serviced by and transitioning between these services.

The following disciplines will be considered, up to the approximate award levels: Occupational Therapy Level 3, Social Worker Level 3, Clinical Nurse Specialist (Grade 2), Clinical Psychologist/Clinical psychologist in training.

We are looking for three motivated, organised and resilient health professionals who understand the complex impact mental illness can have on young people, their families, carers and the community.

You have excellent communication skills with a strong focus on patient care. You have exceptional work ethic, time management skills and the ability to work with people from different cultural backgrounds.

You are a sound communicator with demonstrated ability to present findings and recommendations to stakeholders with credibility.

About the role

This is a newly created role to support young people who are transitioning between child and adolescent to adult mental health services and/or young people who require co-ordinated specialist care from multiple services both within and external to health services.

The objectives of this new service will be to improve patient experience of care, increase access to care for vulnerable young people, improve patient outcomes and improve service delivery to vulnerable young people.

There are two positions who will sit within the adult mental health teams at Maitland or Charlestown New South Wales. Please indicate your preferred location in order of preference when applying for the position.

Selection Criteria
Must hold a degree in Nursing*, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology** or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer, which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association/full registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. For Nursing *Post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification. For Psychology **Post graduate qualifications in clinical psychology or working towards same. Provisional registration would be considered if undertaking post-graduate studies in Clinical psychology.

Post registration qualifications and extensive full time (or equivalent part time) post registration experience in Child and Adolescent mental health.

Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver developmentally appropriate interventions based on advanced biopsychosocial health assessments of young people, their environment and complex needs and to evaluate the outcomes for the young person.

Evidence of ability to build and maintain co-operative professional and therapeutic relationships with key stakeholders and clients through the application of well-developed interpersonal, communication, negotiation and influencing skills

Demonstrated application of professional, ethical and legal frameworks when working with complex situations as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Demonstrated high level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Demonstrated ability to identify and implement improvements in clinical service delivery.

Current Drivers Licence (NSW eligibility).
