Job Description

Cessnock City Council provides a diverse range of services and facilities for the residents within the local government area, as well as visitors to the area. We employ approximately 380 employees and are situated within the Hunter Valley of New South Wales, approximately 120 kilometres north of Sydney and 40 kilometres west of Newcastle.

We are currently seeking a motivated and skilled Planning Assessment Officer to join the Development Services team at Cessnock City Council. The successful candidate will provide an efficient and effective service in relation to the assessment of applications, and accurate and timely advice to the public to ensure that development achieves Council’s objectives.

Working within the Development Services team, this role will be required to:

Process Development Applications, Section 4.55 and Section 8.2 Applications in accordance with statutory requirements and Council’s codes and policies;
Provide written and verbal advice regarding land use, zoning, planning legislation, and Council’s policies and procedures;
Represent Council in meetings with developers and their representatives in regard to development proposals and preparation of applications; and
Carry out assigned reviews and revisions of relevant documents in respect of Council’s development assessment function.
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

Degree in town planning, or currently undertaking studies in town planning (Bachelor Degree minimum) with experience/knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, and associated legislation
Demonstrated knowledge of the development assessment process;
Demonstrated well-developed written and verbal communications skills; and
Demonstrated ability to accept challenges and succeed in a rapidly changing environment.
Remuneration and Benefits:

$67,676 – $78,361 per annum plus 10.5% superannuation
35 hours per week
